Short Description of the Lecture:

1. Pathological Demand Avoidance

Pathological demand avoidance is a fairly new term applied by some professionals to describe complex behaviors in children within the Autism Spectrum.

This term has seen increased popularity in use to describe a behavioral profile of extreme resistance in everyday requests and demands. The underlying reason for this behavior is thought to be due to extreme anxiety.

Strategies found useful in those with PDA are quite different from typical strategies used in those with ASD.

In this presentation, we will further explore this profile to better understand the many presentations we may see in an individual with ASD to provide the most appropriate individualized management strategies.
