Dr. Gassas is a couple and family therapist in the Saudi Ministry of National Guard – Hospital Affairs, since September of 2007. She has graduated from the Michigan State University in August of 2016, with her doctoral degree in Human Development and Family Studies, specializing in CFT. Also, Dr. Gassas have participated in conducting multiple family therapy training in Saudi Arabia.

 

 

Short Description of the Workshop:

1. ASD Family and Couples’ Relationships Family Therapist
This presentation aims to provide an overview of systemically informed family therapy interventions for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and related disorder. Families affected by Autism and related disorder faces multiple needs for the child and the family members. The presentation will provide a review of the literature on a systemic exploration of challenges, needs, and interventions for families from different perspectives of family therapy. Among some of the challenges are the ambiguous loss, parenting stressors, siblings relationship difficulties, and couple relational difficulties. Families challenges and difficulties will be discussed using a circular causality lens to bring a more systemic understanding of child and family interaction with ASDs and other related disorder. Families affected by Autism encounter new challenges to their family structure, boundaries, and roles. Some families experience family disengagement or enmeshments. The main focus of this presentation will be focusing on ASDs and related disorder interactions with parenting and couple satisfaction. In addition to discussing challenges, there will be a focus on highlighting the strength and resiliency of families with special need children.
