Short Description of the Lecture:

1. Omani Paradigm in Genetics

Autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) is a genetically heterogenous neurodevelopmental disorder that is caused by a variable spectrum of genetic mechanisms. In this session will take you through the diagnostic journey of families diagnosed with ASD that are seen at the Genetics and Developmental Medicine (GDM) Clinic at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in Oman. We will also touch on implications of consanguinity on the genetic landscape in consanguineous families with ASD. Our main objectives are: to discuss the genetic services available for children diagnosed with ASD, to present our diagnostic yield using current available diagnostic molecular technologies and to share some of the lessons learnt and future directions.
